With great sadness, Peters Edition has learned of the death of Mauricio Kagel in Cologne on 17 September 2008. One of the most important composers of the 20th Century, Kagel's output was vast and extremely influential.
His music encompasses not only stage, orchestral and chamber music in an extremely wide range of instrumental settings, but also film scores, radio plays and essays.
Always notable for his innate humour and theatricality, his sense of the absurd brought a measure of fun to the contemporary concert hall.
He received many awards including the Erasmus Award (1998), the Ernst von Siemens Music Award (2000), the Großer Rheinischer Kunstpreis (2002) and and Honorary Doctorate from Siegen University (2007).
