As October draws to a close, a major exhibition examining the work of John Cage will begin in Barcelona and a symposium at Bard College devoted to the work of the composer will take place.
John Cage at Bard: A Symposium which begins on October 30th and concludes on November 1st is sponsored by the Cage Trust at Bard College, Bard College Conservatory of Music, Office of the Dean of Graduate Studies and the Institute for Writing and Thinking Studies. There will be lectures, films and more including a performance of Cage percussion classics by Nexus, a traversal of the SONATAS AND INTERLUDES by Blair McMillen, a lecture on 4’33” by Kyle Gann who is celebrating the publication of his book on the subject and a performance of INDETERMINACY by Laura Kuhn and Marina Rosenfeld. In Barcelona the Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona (MACBA)will be presenting The Anarchy of Silence, John Cage and Experimental Art from October 23, 2009 to January 10th, 2010. Many Cage manuscripts which rarely leave the New York Public Library will be on exhibit. There will also be installations devoted to HPSCHD and LECTURE ON THE WEATHER as well as performances by many Cage specialists including Margaret Tan. See the MACBA website for details.
