Chanticleer, one of the USA's top vocal ensembles has commissioned a new work from Roxanna Panufnik, based on the life of Jesus as a child.
Using a text adapted by Jessica Duchen from the Infancy Gospel of Thomas, a non-canonic gospel circulating in the early Christian Church, Panufnik has written a 9 minute work for SATB choir with divisions. The work interveaves a Yemeni Kaddish melody into the story depicted in the Gospel, sung in English and Aramaic.
World Premiere: Conducted by Matthew Oltman on 26/03/2011 at Cathedral of Christ in the Light, Oakland CA.
In the UK, a new work by Panufnik for the National Youth Choirs of Great Britain’s gala concert premieres on 17 April at Birmingham Symphony Hall. We are the Music-Makers is a 7-minute setting for junior/upper voice SSA choir and double SATB choir of the famous poem by Arthur W. E. O’Shaughnessy, adapted by Jessica Duchen. The performance promises a ‘surround sound’ experience, with 300 singers taking part in the premiere performance under conductor Mike Brewer. www.nycgb.net

Tallinn Mass: Dance of Life for solo soprano, narrator, mixed choir, kannel, percussion and string orchestra receives its premiere on 30 June in St John’s Church, conducted by Eri Klas with soloist Patricia Rozario.
