Nocturne, for women's voices, by Sebastian Fagerlund will be premièred in Helsinki on 19 March 2011. The Academic Female Choir Lyran will premiere the composer's first work for women's voices at the Concert Hall of Helsinki University under Jutta Seppinen.
Fagerlund writes: Nocturne was inspired by an intensely lyrical poem of Edith Södergran that I read a long time ago and wished to use as the basis of my work. When the Academic Female Choir Lyran approached me with a commission, the pieces fell into place and I was greatly inspired by the thought of creating a work for choir where melodic lines and harmonies gradually converge. In this imaginary nocturnal world contours change and new shapes emerge.
