Roxanna Panufnik - London Mozart Players Associate Composer
The London Mozart Players has announced the appointment of its first Associate Composer, Roxanna Panufnik.
Her three year tenure which begins in 2012 will include at least one new commission each year, including the fourth of her new Four Seasons for violinist Tasmin Little (with the London premiere of all four Seasons in 2012) and a choral-orchestral work for the hugely successful Portsmouth Grammar School series.
Roxanna will be closely involved with our local education and community work and several recordings are also in the pipeline.
LMP Managing Director Simon Funnell says: “The LMP has a tradition of commissioning and performing new music, which stretches right back to the time when Jane Glover was our Music Director. Roxanna, LMP Music Director Gérard Korsten and I all want the LMP audience to feel as at home with a new piece as with something by Mozart or Haydn. Appointing someone as engaging as Roxanna will help that process enormously. Roxanna has written a wide range of pieces including opera, ballet, music theatre, choral and chamber works which are regularly performed all over the world.”
Roxanna Panufnik says: “This is a fantastic opportunity for me to work more in the instrumental and orchestral field with one of the UK’s finest orchestras. I look forward hugely to collaborating with conductor Gérard Korsten and LMP on a far-reaching range of projects – especially at such an exciting time of rebirth for the orchestra.”
The LMP’s Music Director Gérard Korsten says “New music is vital to the future of orchestral classical music and, as much as we love to play the music of our heritage it is vital also to hear new works. Roxanna brings some incredible influences into her music, particular world music, and her music is popular yet profound, theatrical and emotional, and we are very excited about working with her.
