Award-winning work performed Miller Theater September 2011
One of the most ambitious musical works of our time, James Dillon’s Nine Rivers cycle will be performed in September 2011 over three nights at the Miller Theater, Colombia University New York. The work received a triumphant world premiere in Glasgow in November 2010, an event described by Andrew Clements in the Guardian as “an immense occasion, unquestionably the most significant new-music event in Britain [in 2010] … Quite extraordinary.”
Following that first complete performance Dillon was celebrated with a record-breaking fourth Royal Philharmonic Society Award as Nine Rivers was given the Large-Scale Composition award. The jury praised the work’s “sheer ambition and the consistency of creative thought sustaining it”
The conductor and percussion soloist Steve Schick will once again lead the array of performers in this extraordinary work.
