John Cage Events In London And Paris

Southbank Centre and Festival d'Automne
As part of John Cage: Every Day is a Good Day, a selection from a major exhibition of John Cage's visual art which has been touring the country, the Hayward Gallery will host a John Cage Night on September 13th 2011. A special viewing of the exhibition, including an introductory talk on Cage's visual works, will be followed by a concert of his music given by the ensemble Apartment House at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, and a post-concert talk from Laura Kuhn of the John Cage Trust.

Several major events will take place at the Festival d'Automne à Paris in November: Cage's final work, Seventy-Four for orchestra, is performed by the Symphony Orchestra of the SWR Baden-Baden and Freiburg with Ilan Volkov on 12 November; Frederic Rzewski and Stephen Drury negotiate the 'diabolical virtuosity' of Études australes which derives its musical material from stars seen in the Southern Hemisphere and the I Ching on 19 November 2011; and a portrait concert including ear for EAR (Antiphonies), Four solos, Four2, extracts from for violin solo, One9, and Hymns and Variations for twelve amplified voices takes place on 12 December with Mayumi Miyata, Carolin Widmann, and the Exaudi vocal ensemble conducted by James Weeks.
