Edition Peters composers prove popular with critics
Recent recordings of works by Edition Peters composers have been favourably reviewed in a variety of publications.
Gramophone has featured Edition RZ's release of works by Christian Wolff, Kompositionen 1950-72, consisting of archive recordings by a variety of performers, including Cornelius Cardew, David Tudor, and Frederic Rzewski; Roger Reynold'sSanctuary, performed by Steven Schick (Mode) is praised as "the most outstandingly original view of percussion since Varèse's Ionisation"; and the recent BIS release of works by Anders Hillborg, recorded by the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra under Gilbert, Oramo and Salonen, "showcases Hillborg's typically multifaceted and wickedly good-natured humour".
Writing in The Times, Paul Driver has selected two releases featuring works by Peters Composers as part of his top 10 contemporary classical releases of 2011: the Goldberg Ensemble's interpretation of works by Geoffrey Poole, Roger Marsh and Nicola LeFanu, Crossing Ohashi Bridge (NMC), is praised for its "stimulating power", while the Brentano Quartet's recording of chamber works by Charles Wuorinen (Naxos) is "able to show that modernism is not only alive and kicking, but an emblem of the vigour of living".
