Cultivating The Secret Garden in the UK and Canada
Stephen McNeff’s award-winning two-act opera The Secret Garden – which retells the story of playwright and author Frances Hodgson Burnett’s well-known novel – is receiving four performances this week. The performances, which almost mark the centenary of the novel’s first full publication in 1911, take place as part of Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance’s annual Summer Opera, at Blackheath Halls, London. Dominic Wheeler conducts, and the performances involve students from Trinity under the direction of Kelly Robinson, Banff’s Director of Theatre Arts. The Blackheath Halls run is taking place from 4-7 July; the performances at the Margaret Greenham Theatre, Banff Centre, Alberta, Canada take place on 11, 12 and 18 August.
