Jonathan Doves magical full-scale work for a family audience, with a libretto by Alasdair Middleton translated by Ralf Nürnberger, opened at Theater Bonn on 1 December. Originally commissioned by Opera North with Sadlers Wells Theatre, UK and co-produced with Theater Chemnitz, Germany, this work with its spectacular story-telling is an ideal introduction to opera.
Dr. Bernhard Helmich, who oversaw the German premiere of the opera in 2008 said: During my time as General Director at Theater Chemnitz Pinocchio was the opera with the most performances and largest audience. It is an exceptional work; an opera which is genuinely for the whole family and artistically challenging at the same time. I am certain that Jonathan Dove will go from strength to strength in Germany as audiences continue to discover his existing and future operas.
The Adventures of Pinocchio runs at Theater Bonn until 29 March 2014 - more details are available on their website.
