Each year the Music Export Sweden Prize recognises those who have contributed to promoting the image of Sweden across the globe. At this week’s ceremony, held in Stockholm, the Swedish government's highest honour for longstanding contributions to Swedish music exports was awarded to composer Anders Hillborg. Hillborg’s music is widely performed around the world and reflects the quality of music and art that is currently coming out of Sweden.
An honourable mention was given to Esa-Pekka Salonen for his important efforts of internationally promoting Swedish music. Salonen has championed Hillborg’s work for many years and continues to do so.
Upcoming performances of Hillborg's work include ...lontana in sonno... for mezzo-soprano and orchestra, performed by Virpi Räisänen and Wermland Opera on 17 March; and on 3 April, LSO perform Exquisite Corpse at the Barbican Centre, in a concert also featuring Neilsen and Sibelius. Tickets are available via the Barbican website.
