Rebecca Saunders Wins BASCA Award

6 December, British Museum

We are delighted that Rebecca Saunders has been awarded a BASCA British Composer Award for Skin, in a ceremony at the British Museum on Wednesday 6 December. The Chamber Ensemble category was extremely strong with Khadambi’s House by Cevanne Horrocks-Hopayian and The wreck of former boundaries by Aaron Cassidy completing the shortlisted works.

Since its world premiere at Donaueschinger Musiktage with soprano Juliet Fraser and Klangforum Wien in 2016, Skin has been performed across Europe, with its UK premiere taking place at Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival. Future opportunities to hear the work, which also received an RPS Award earlier this year, include both the London and Dutch premieres in May 2018, with London Sinfonietta and the Asko Schoenberg Ensemble respectively.

Skin was commissioned by South German Radio, Casa da Musica Porto and
Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival.

The British Composer Awards promote the art of composition, recognising the creative talent of composers and sound artists in order to bring their music to a wider audience.
