We’re delighted that James Dillon's Tanz/haus : triptych 2017 has won this year’s RPS Award for Chamber-Scale Composition.
Dillon’s fifth RPS composition award (awarded twenty years after he won his first), makes him one of the most decorated musicians in RPS Music Awards history. The jury described the piece as “ground-breaking”, and commended it for how it “immerses its audience in a music theatre of the mind. Compelling for the sureness of its unfolding in time and space, the striking soundworlds and its rich underlying vein of melancholy.”
The 50-minute piece premiered with Red Note Ensemble in the opening concert of Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival’s 40th edition last year, with the ensemble due to tour it to Scotland, Belgium and the Netherlands in October and November 2018.
Tanz/haus : triptych 2017 was co-commissioned by Red Note Ensemble, Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, Sound Scotland, Transit and November Music.
